Prepare to be dazzled by Lee, the avant-garde fashion designer and artist shaking things up in Cebu City, Philippines and at Tahche Studios headquarters. From crafting doll couture to clinching youth competition victories, Lee’s journey is nothing short of fabulous, blending sustainability with a flair for the extraordinary.
From Dolls to Designers
Lee’s flair for fashion ignited with the tiny ensembles he designed for his dolls growing up. Having a bead embroidery artist for a mother, we are not surprised that he has been exposed to the art of fashion at such a young age.
With fate doing its thing and Lee pitching in the hard work, this playful beginning that started with dolls evolved into a full-blown fashion career when he wowed the judges at a local youth competition. Now, he’s creating designer pieces that’s setting runways on fire!
Sustainable Style: The Art of Upcycling
Lee’s approach to fashion is both inventive and environmentally conscious, ultimately shaping his trademark of unconventional style.
“I want to use things that are new to me. Something that’s unuseful… I like to make something beautiful out of it.”
By embracing recycled and sustainable materials, Lee sees opportunity where others see trash. With materials others would not even think to use, he creates unique pieces that not only stand out but also make a statement about the beauty and advocacy in sustainable fashion.
Embracing Unconventional Fashion
His resourcefulness shone brightly when a fire in his area led to an excess of donated clothes. Lee upcycled these garments into a stunning dress that won another competition, showcasing his ability to turn adversity into art.
To fellow designers exploring unconventional materials, Lee offers sage advice:
“Always find a way to stand out. It’s not about just making beautiful things, but making different things, or being unique.”
Showcasing Filipino Heritage
Lee draws inspiration from his culture and country, infusing his designs with elements that express the beauty and uniqueness of his homeland.
“I want to show what my place and country could serve.”
His creations are an awe-inspiring reflection of Filipino heritage, brought to life through innovative design. He uses traditional imagery from Filipino festival costumes and even uses the colors of the Philippine flag in his art pieces.
A Fashion Designer with a Cause
Lee’s talents extend beyond fashion. Also a youth counselor, he regularly meets with town representatives to improve his community’s quality of life.
Truly, Lee is an exemplary example of not being defined by the limits of a title or role. Unconventional to the very core.
